Quote: Sovereignty is the guiding story in our pursuit of self-determination, the general strategy by which we aim to best recover our losses from the ravages of colonization: our lands, our languages, our cultures, our self-respect.
Question: How is the idea of sovereignty being shaped in today's society and how is it being addressed in the history of literature?
Continually scholars and academics are returning to history books to examine lost voices and oppressed, minority opinions. A popular current example of sovereignty may be of one's sexuality. As the LGBT community garners support and perpetuates their agenda, they are constantly trying to gain their own sovereignty and a space within society to occupy.
ReplyDeleteKind of how previous theorists have mentioned, I think we are starting to recognize a necessity to re-map history. The voiceless had been buried underneath the ideals of the rich white man for so long but it is undeniable that their personal stories and struggles are a huge component to our world's backbone. It's a big task but we are constantly uncovering new perspectives and viewpoints with both old, new and pre-existing discrimination.
