Quote: "Since rhetoric enhances one's strength, it is clearly beneficial" (Plato, 83)

Question: do you think rhetoric has become more transprent with the ongoing creations of social media and technology? How has rhetoric effected politics?

  1. I believe that rhetoric has become more transparent with the ongoing creation of social media because we communicate through social media and through technology such as cell phones rather than speak face-to-face. We also communicate using certain words that may be understood by some people. Also, rhetoric has affected politics by have the ability to twist other your candidate's words to make yourself look more favorable.

  2. I think it depends on the situation. Rhetoric is more transparent because we don't talk face to face anymore due to cell phones etc. However, there are many apps such as Instagram that can persuade users one way or another. I agree with Michaella, rheotirc has affected politics because it is allowing candidates and the media to alter candidates words to make them look better to a particular party.

  3. I agree with the notion that rhetoric has become more transparent within modern culture. Because of technological era we are in communication has changed drastically as we find more people communicating through emails and text messages rather than face to face. This absence of tangibility through conversation is affecting the way we communicate and can cause some repercussions.
