QQC #3

Quote "Any image event is nested within a culture’s prevailing mode of perception, and the mode of perception that organized medieval life and knowledge was identification."

Question: How can an event image change someone's perception of something? How can it persuade them?

  1. i think an image event involves evidence, knowledge, and actual physical events that can make a person appear to be something that they may or may not be. Catherine spent her entire life living through her words. She literally practiced what she preached. I also feel like image events spark ideas into existence and give others the opportunity to be someone or something different.

  2. If done correctly, I think that an image event can bring either new attention or new details to light. For instance, in my QQC I noted Beyoncé's Super Bowl 50 performance. She and her dancers performed in Blank Panther attire that sparked a huge conversation across the country. This conversation allowed some speakers to highlight the more positive things that the group did in response to the negative perception that they received at the time of their formation due to the upper class white men in charge doing the writing of history.

  3. An image I feel is like a form of verification. Everyone knows the quote 'actions speak louder than words'. This supports the idea that people like to see a speaker follow through with what they preach. It is one thing to simply say something, but once it has been supported with visible action there is proof that the speaker actually embodies what the believe in.

  4. An image can alter the way someone mentally pictures something. Like when someone reads a book, the images are open to the interpretation of the reader. But when the book is turned into a movie, the freedom is taken away.
