QQC #2

QUTOE: "On the other hand, women did not appear to be totally oppressed. Even a woman who did nothing but tend her home might have considerable responsibilities, for she might be in charge of numerous servants and slaves engaged in domestic and handicraft activities."

QUESTION: Would you argue that the women were not totally oppressed even though these were their only duties?

  1. I would argue that woman were not completely oppressed in classical Greece. Although their rights were far and few, it seems that they did not take their responsibilities lightly, and those who were bright enough had the power to influence their children, or the men in their life through rhetoric. Aspasia is a great example of this. Although she was a foreign woman, she had enough intellectual power to heavily influence powerful men, and Greek rhetoric of her time.
