Quote; Finding truth now, when we exist in the flesh, is difficult, however, because it requires remembering what has been covered over in our minds by the experience of carnality and temporality. (Plato 81)

Question; Do you agree that is is hard to find the truth because of thoughts and culture have curved a way for us to think and not think outside the box?

  1. Hey John! So I don't think that this quote is referring to thinking "outside the box." Plato believed the opposite of the Sophists in the way that he held that transcendent truth exists and that it is accessible to human beings. What is being referred to in this quote, I believe, is the notion that transcendent truth is more difficult to access by humans because of our preoccupation with the issues of our realities and the needs and desires of the flesh. The transcendent has no use for the needs and desires of the human realm, and thus, these human things must be shed, or suspended perhaps, in order to experience/have transcendent truth revealed to an individual. I hope this helps! -Cassidy Camp
