QQC 2

Quote: For two thousand years, humans have been conditioned to accept the opinions of "thinkers from Aristotle and Rousseau to Talcott Parsons and Erik Erikson . . . [who] have argued that women not only differ from men but are not as equipped mentally and physically to function in the spheres of society in which men predominate" (Epstein 2, emphasis added). Each of these men seems to have returned to the beliefs of Aristotle, who wrote that "between the sexes, the male is by nature superior and the female inferior, the male ruler and the female subject" (Politics I.ii.12) and "one quality or action is nobler than another if it is that of a naturally finer being: thus a man's will be nobler than a woman's" (Rhetoric 1.915)

Question: Will there ever be a time in society where we as a species have transcended beyond the hinderances from privileged men, beyond the shortcomings of gender inequality, where we are not constantly reminded of the issues at hand in everyday society? If so, when?

  1. I don't believe we'll be living within a society that has transcended such difficulties anytime soon. Our modern day culture is advancing much more rapidly with the aid if technology and progressive thinking, yet that will not allow our world as a whole to come together. Antiquated mind-sets and individuals will bog down the group, and to become this advanced society that is not hindered by physical/mental/emotional inequalities it will take time.
