Campbell QQC

Quote: "Women who claimed their rights were seen as selfish, as wanting to abandon their traditional womanly roles to enter the sphere of men."

Question: Is this still relevant in today's society? Are women who fight for their rights still seen as selfish?

  1. I think this question is heavily related to the context of the situation. As women, we've come a long from 19th century rhetoric and woman's rights and practices during this time, but we still have a long way to go. In today's society woman are penalized for working long hours because they are not spending enough time doing their "true" job, which in this case is working at home and raising their children.

  2. In the society we live in today, and such a progressive time for women, it is almost seen as a norm for women to fight for their rights especially in the work place. yes i agree we have come a very long way in women's rights but i would not agree that there is complete equality in the work place. There is still a sense of "one sex over the other" in certain career positions and overall salary.

  3. In my opinion, there are many parts of society that (whether is is public or not) view women as selfish for fighting for their rights because it could potentially deter them from completing their 'domestic' duties. Obviously this is not the case, but there are still many people in society today that believe that if a woman is fighting for her rights somehow this makes her selfish, this is a very relevant topic in today's society and one that is very debated.

  4. Definitely not, we're in a time where woman have prominant roles in society and theres a difference between fighting for just yourself and fighting for a human right.
