QQC 6

Quote: "And doubtless that's one reason why, though man is typically the symbol-using animal, he clings to a kind of naive verbal realism that refuses to realize the full extent of the role played by symbolicity in his notions of reality."

Questions: Without human's use of symbols, would the human race still be in a primitive state? Why or why not?

  1. Hey Cassidy. I think in a way you can argue yes to your question because in a sense symbols create language, and without language how would we be able to communicate our thoughts, emotions, findings, etc. with one another. Symbols and language together have aided the human rice in rising and advancing from our state of primal beings. With this connection of reference to referent we are able to connect word to symbol, thus creating an ebb and flow of idea exchange enabling us to grow as a species.
