Question: Could this arguably coincide with cultural appropriation?  Does mainstream multiculturalism deface specific identities in an insensitive and thoughtless way?

  1. I would like to say that mainstream multiculturalism and cultural appropriation are not the same, but they end up leading to the same effect of watering down different cultures. Mainstream multiculturalism, even if it is enforced with good intentions, still operates with the idea that a minority culture must still conform to the tastes and ideals of the majority culture. Although it it not as easily visible as cultural appropriation, it still suppresses the freedom of cultures that it includes
