QQC ANZALDUA

Quote: " Ethnic identity is twin skin to linguistic identity."
Question:Do you feel often being identified by your language, where ever you go? Do you feel by this quote, you are who you are because of  your ethnic background or by the language and way you speak?

  1. I feel that we, as a society, see other people and immediately have an opinion on how they speak or are. As a black man, I have noticed looks from people that make assumptions about how I am. However, when I speak in an educated manner, there seems to be less tension. This tension is there because of the prior assumptions made but seeing that I speak in a normal manner similar to theirs put them at ease. It can be frustrating that people can see others in this way but I think that even people of their own cultures judge each other. I have been called a "white" black man, even by family, because I don't live up to expected stereotypes. I think this is something that we would have to fix as a whole by just looking at others as just humans and not make assumptions that could put our foots in our mouths.

  2. I believe today, especially in America, people often identify people on what country they think they're from based in appearance. Being a middle eastern man, many people often incorrectly identify me as an Indian or Pakistani. So in this sense, I do believe that you are who you are in this society based on ethnicity backgrounds and appearance.
