QQC 6 - Burke

Quote: "Do we simply use words, or do they not also use us?
An "ideology" is like a god coming down to earth, where it will inhabit a place pervaded by its presence. An "ideology" is like a spirit taking up its abode in a body: it makes that body hop around in certain ways; and that same body would have hopped around in different ways had a different ideology happened to inhabit it."

Question: How have words used or can use us?

  2. I think this speaks to how we can be manipulated through rhetoric. While we can use words, both crafted words and actions can use us. We all can be used or can give into certain arguments that people make through their certain appeals. Language can be powerful, which can cause us to to be persuaded to different arguments we normally would not give into if it weren't for the way the particular argument were delivered.
