Gloria Anzaldua QQC

"Let's all stop importing Greek myths and the Western Cartesian split point of view and root ourselves in the mythological soil and soul of this continent. White America has only attended to the body of the earth in order to exploit it, never to succor it or to be nurtured in it."

How does her standpoint make clear her awareness of cultural boundaries in America?

  1. I feel like what she's trying to point out is that without cultural awareness and boundaries in America, one truly doesn't know the meaning of life. I feel like she is strongly opposed to the Paternal narrative, as these men are the root of having non multiculturalism in the country when it comes to rhetoric and knowledge.

  2. What I think Anzaldúa is trying to claiming is that we are so stuck in the past when it comes to praising white men in history and we are constantly trying hurting the earth is ways that have become such a cultural norm. For example, pollution (everything does and everyone now a day ha a car and contributes to this). I also feel like she is stating that we only celebrate the old style white men from the old days and that we haven't changed nor tried to break past it and create our own view.

  3. I think her perspective is very refreshing because she offers one that many people may not think of as a Spanish-speaker in a predominantly english-speaking world. It was interesting for me to read that she was taught multiple times to lose her accent and essentially lose her heritage and where she came from. On the other hand, I do think that while her perspective is refreshing some may be able to turn it into something that it isn't. There is a difference between asking someone to accept more than one culture and more than one language (especially if they are coming from one country to another) and asking them to completely obliterate their heritage/language.
